Sunshine Violin

A personal model violin made with a flair of the Guarneri Family, both Cremonese and Venetian styles to inspire.

The Italian spruce used for the top plate is of a very fine even grain, perfectly quartered, bookmatched, and has a glowing lively look in the light of the sun. Seasoning in my wood collection for over 20 years, it is light, stiff and super resonant.

For the one piece back I chose an extraordinary wedge of beautifully flamed European maple. A piece I've had for over 20 years, lively, resonant, and of great tonal strength.

The neck and scroll are carved from a single piece of gently figured 1/4 cut European maple. Fingerboard of finest ebony. Fine fittings from jacaranda wood, appointed with boxwood pips and collars.

Set up for concert use, the sound of the violin is full and rich, with warm overtones. It easily projects and is well balanced across the register.

The transparent golden amber varnish has hints of red, and shows a radiant depth over the gold yellow ground.
